Science and art collide in Michael John Blake’s musical translation of the Golden Ratio, a mathematical constant with the value of 1.61803398874989…onto infinity. Blake created the melody by taking the first 39 digits and assigning each number a note, setting the tempo at 161.8 BPM, and then doing some excellent arranging. Who knew math could sound so amazing?

I feel like this poem by cast member Judd (shared in episode 3) is not just a metaphor for the Real World house of which he was a part, but basically for the world we all live in:

Fish Bowl

I’ve seen a big old fish bowl,
It’s full of different fish.
They talk, they fight, they laugh, they cry,
But they never clean a dish.

The fish are different colors,
And they think of that a lot.
It worries some to no end,
Others just smell funny and blow snot.

I wonder about this fish bowl.
I wonder if it’s big enough.
I wonder if they’ll nip at each other,
If the sea gets a bit too rough.

I hope the fish know,
How many wish they could be with them.
I hope they know when they’re down,
They can just relax, smile, and swim

El Biblio-Burro. Es una iniciativa de un maestro (en mayúsculas), que se llama Luis Soriano Borges, que recorre los pueblos más escondidos de Colombia para enseñar los libros a los niños. El burro se llama Beto y la burra Alfa.

The Biblio-Donkey. This is an initiative by a teacher named Luis Soriano Borges, who travels through the most distant and hidden villages of Colombia to bring books to children. The male donkey is named Beto and the female is Alfa.

The Biblio-Burro! I love all mobile libraries, and used to wish I lived in a more rural area every time I saw my hometown county library’s Bookmobile parked near the Civic Center when I was a kid.
